Thwarting this type of attack is not as easy as stopping basic hopping VLAN attacks. A double tagging attack is a uni-directional attack. The Double tagging attack is only possible if the attacker has physical connectivity to an interface that belongs to the native VLAN of the trunk port. In this type of attack, the attacker takes advantage of the hardware way of operation. The double-tagging VLAN attacks are also known as double-encapsulated VLAN hopping attacks. Switch1(config-if-range)#switchport mode trunk Switch1(config)#interface range gigabitethernet 0/20 – 23 Switch1(config-if-range)#switchport nonegotiateĬonfigure all the trunk ports as a trunk port and disable DTP on trunk ports. Switch1(config)#interface range fastethernet 0/0 – 20 Configure all switches in the network like below. Configure all access ports as an access port and disable DTP everywhere. It is also necessary to disable DTP, and manually enable trunking.įollowing are the steps for protecting a switch from a spoofing attacks. We can avoid a switch spoofing attack by turning off trunking on all ports, except the ones that specifically require trunking. The figure below illustrates the switch spoofing/VLAN hopping attack. The attacker tricks a switch into thinking that another switch is attempting to form a trunk, thus an attacker gets access to all the VLANs allowed on the trunk port. They configure a system to spoof itself as a switch. The attacker tack advantage of the default switchport mode which is dynamic auto. VLAN hopping enables traffic from one VLAN to be seen by another VLAN. Switch spoofing is VLAN attack, taking advantage of an incorrectly configured trunk port.

So in this lesson, we will discuss VLAN attacks, backhaul and how can we protect VLANs from VLAN Attacks. It also improves the performance of the network, but it has some backhaul for hackers which is necessary to understand. The VLAN simplifies network administration and maintenance. By default, trunk ports can use all VLANs and pass traffic for multiple VLANs across the same physical link between switches.

I did install the muzzy fan in hopes this would help solve the problem, but I am aggravated and tired of putting band aids on the bike, I want it fixed right so this doesn't happen again. In the previous article, I explained how trunks work.

OK so here's my deal, I recently took the engine out of my 07 busa to have 2nd gear undercut as it was starting to pop out of gear, as many Suzuki's do, after the engine was reinstalled on the bike, after start up the engine would heat up during idling, reaching half way the fan would kick on then kick off, the temp would rise and the fan would continue to kick on but not cool it down enough, I would never let the engine get above 3/4 on the temp gauge, I burped the system several times, started & ran to operating temperature, shut down, removed cap, topped off fluid, leaned over left as far as I could watch with the cap off to watch for bubbles, after the 4th time on this I didn't see anymore bubbles, so I capped the radiator, filled the overflow exactly between the low & full marks, I then started the bike and let it idle, the bike ran fine, no smoke from the exhaust, fan cycled half a dozen times and temps never went above half way, I assumed the problem was solved, so I turn it off and install the lowers back on it, get everything back together and next day while I'm detailing it I started it only to have it start to go warm again, needle gets to about 3/4 the way up and the overflow starts to fill up with coolant from the radiator I suppose, I am clueless on what to do here, with the lowers off the bike does great and isn't giving me any problems, the bike only has 9800 miles on it with a hindle full exhaust and pc3 with a mild tune and running premium fuel, I never had this problem until after the engine was back from my engine guy, any ideas? I know there were blue shop towels in some of the engine holes when I sent it to him but I assume they were all removed before reinstall of the engine.
